Jamshedpur : The district police have pressed into service of cops on the motorcycle for patrolling the picturesque Dimna lake area this picnic season.
The initiative is aimed at providing better security to the tourists as well as the picnickers who throng to this tourist destination in large number around this time.
Revealing about the special police arrangement, City SP Karthik S said that as many as 12 motorcops and 30 policemen are being deployed at the Dimna lake and its vicinity where people tend to visit while coming for the sight seeing.
“The initiative will ensure vigilant against eve-teasers, drunkards and other anti-socials, the police men will be deployed at strategic locations across the tourist destination,” said the SP.
He pointed out that the motorcops � two trained policemen in each of the 12 bikes — will be equipped with wireless sets, alcohol testing equipment and pistols. The policemen to be deployed at the strategic locations will be carrying batons, just to ward of the rowdy elements and control the crowd.
According to the senior police officer, the special security arrangement by the district police will remain effective till January 26, the period during which the people, especially the picnickers tend to visit Dimna.
�The idea precisely is to keep check on rash driving and prevent miscreants from creating trouble to the revelers on the street and near the parks,� said Amol V Homkar, senior police superintendent.
The police will also act tough with people driving in an inebriated state of mind and with hoodwinks driving vehicles using police and press stickers.
The district women cell personnel, in assistance from the local police station, will carry out mobile duty to get hold of eve-teasers, if any, inside the park and outside.
The incidents of eve-teasing, molestation and even snatching take place during the congragation of picnickers at the Dimna lake every year.
According to the SSP, apart from the Dimna lake area, special security arrangement have been made at Narwa lake in Jadugora and at Burudih Dam in Ghatshila.
Every year, from mid of December to the end January tourists from the different parts of the state and also from neighbouring Bengal come here for enjoying picnic at Dalma hills, Dimna lake, Burudih Dam, Galudih resort, Narwa, Jubilee Park and Hudco Lake.
According to the rural SP, apart from the Dimna lake area, special security arrangement have been made at Narwa lake in Jadugora and at Burudih Dam in Ghatshila.
