Ranchi: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta today issued an order to start the construction work for the proposed new building of the Assembly. He held a meeting with the officials of the state building construction department officials and the Greater Ranchi Development Authority in his office to review the construction work.
Bhokta said the work was going very slow and that it needed to be sped up so that the new building may be constructed without delay. He expressed displeasure over the fact that even the boundary wall of the new building had not been constructed as yet.
Speaking to scribes after the meeting, the Speaker said the rather slow pace of work was a matter of concern. He said the building construction department and GRDA authorities were responsible for the situation. He said the officials concerned had shown recklessness and dereliction of duty.
The Assembly building is not only a matter of prestige for the state government but also directly linked to the dignity of the Assembly. Despite five months having passed, no progress has been seen in the construction work. So far it has not been decided as to who between the building construction department and the GRDA will carry out the construction work, said Bhokta.
The Speaker further said that the MLA funds will be released within 10 days. He said the Assembly construction work was the responsibility of the state government. He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his appointment. He said the number of seats in Jharkhand Assembly should be increased from 82 to 150.
