South Eastern Railway reports growth in freight loading

Kolkata, June 11: South Eastern Railway (SER) has demonstrated a robust start to the current financial year 2024-‘25, with a significant increase in originating freight loading during the months of April and May. Recording a loading of 34.91 million tonnes, SER continues its upward trajectory from the previous fiscal year’s record-breaking performance of 211.60 Million tonnes.

During April-May 2024, SER loaded 18.05 million tonnes of iron ore, marking a 3.85% increase compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal. Additionally, 8.96 million tonnes of coal were loaded, reflecting a 2.17% growth from the previous year. Other major commodities contributing to freight loading include pig iron & finished steel, cement, food grains, and fertilizers.

The growth trend extends to originating freight revenue, with a notable 2.98% increase during April-May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Revenue generated from originating freight loading reached Rs 3166.66 crore, up from Rs. 3076.13 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
