Jamshedpur: South Eastern Railway (SER) hit record numbers in freight, passenger services, and infrastructure modernization in the 2025–26 financial year.
According to an official release from Kolkata, the zone loaded 210.41 million tonnes of freight, generating ₹18,32.44 crore in earnings. Passenger services also saw significant growth, with 220.36 million passengers contributing ₹2961.20 crore to the zone’s revenue.
Revenue and Technical Gains
Beyond primary operations, SER diversified its income and cut costs through technical innovation:

Ancillary Income: Ticket checking (₹104.05 crore), catering (₹184 crore), and non-fare revenue (₹30.57 crore) bolstered the bottom line.

In-House Repairs: For the first time, ELS/SRCE repaired Medha Line Converter Modules in-house, saving approximately ₹9 lakh per unit.

Crew Comfort: The zone installed cab air-conditioning in 41 locomotives and waterless urinals in 23 others.
Safety and Modernization
SER prioritized safety by accelerating the rollout of the KAVACH collision avoidance system, installing it in six locomotives and setting up a simulator at ELS/TATA. The zone now holds 1,566 electric locomotives—the highest count in Indian Railways—after commissioning 101 new units this year.
Infrastructure & Green Energy

Power & Tracks: Teams replaced 173 kilometers of aged overhead equipment (OHE) wire—a 22% increase over last year—and energized new traction substations at Manoharpur and Bhanjpur.

Sustainability: The zone added 7.18 MWp of rooftop solar capacity to its green energy portfolio.

Station Upgrades: Passengers now benefit from 16 new escalators and 20 new lifts across various stations.
Operational Efficiency
The railway improved signaling reliability by installing electronic interlocking at 14 stations and Automatic Block Signaling over 156 route kilometers. Maintenance crews also replaced 738 worn-out points to ensure smoother, safer transit.
Passenger Service Enhancements
To meet rising demand, SER:

Operated 1,365 special trains and introduced five new services.

Increased the speed of 39 Mail/Express trains from 110 kmph to 130 kmph.

Upgraded nine trains from ICF to modern LHB coaches.
On the workforce front, the zone strengthened its team by recruiting 3,182 new employees through various recruitment boards and compassionate appointments.
