SER cancels several trains due to low occupancy
Jamshedpur, March 18: South Eastern Railway on Wednesday announced cancellation of several trains witnessing low occupancy due to the outbreak of coronavirus .
The Howrah-Mumbai CSMT Duronto Express which travels via Tatanagar railway station will remain cancelled between March 24 and 31 while the Mumbai CSMT-Howrah Duronto Express will remain cancelled between March 25 and April 1.
The list of cancelled trains also includes Tatanagar-Ranchi Express. The train which connects steel city with the capital will remain cancelled from March 20 to March 31. The Rourkela-Barbil Intercity Express will remain cancelled from March 20 to March 31.
While Tatanagar-Chhapra Express and Tatanagar-Chakulia Passenger will also remain cancelled from March 18 and March 19 respectively till March 31 due to various infrastructural and safety related modernization work.
An official of South Eastern Railway ( SER) said following a directive from railway board the decision for cancellation of trains was taken. The sale of tickets has dropped drastically during the past few days and the decision was taken due to low occupancy in those trains. All the railway divisions under our jurisdiction have been informed about the cancellation of trains.
He further informed the Santragachi-MGR Chennai Central Suvidha Special will also remain cancelled between March 20 and March 27 due to low occupancy. The MGR Chennai Central- Santragachi Suvidha Special will remain cancelled between March 21 and March 28.
Another SER train –Puri-Santragachi Special ( Up) and Santragachi -Puri Special ( Dn) will also remain cancelled between March 20 and March 27
Chief reservation supervisor at Tatanagar railway station C. S. Rao said after the spread of corona virus fear Daily for the last couple of days on an average 500 to 600 passengers are cancelling tickets for various destinations including New Delhi, Mumbai , Chennai and other places. The figure of daily cancellation of tickets has risen to around Rs 6 lakh for the last few days.
