Solid Waste Management Rules to ensure citizens accountability

Jamshedpur: Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) authorities are mulling over plans to ensure strict implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 in a bid to ensure greater accountability of citizens and institutions generating waste.

Sources said once the rules for solid waste management are implemented in a strict manner, all hotels restaurants, slaughterhouses and vegetable markets will be required to make adequate arrangements for waste disposal within their premises.

Waste will have to be segregated as per set norms and only then should they be handed over to the municipal workers for final disposal, sources said.

Sources said the MNAC is going to serve a notice to all hotels, restaurants and institutions generating waste within 15 days, seeking compliance of the waste disposal rules.

A list of rules for waste segregation will also be made available to the recipients of the notice, sources said.
MNAC officials said those found violating the rules will have to cought up fine up to Rs 10,000 after 2nd October.

The special officer of MNAC Sanjay Kumar, in an appeal to the citizens, said they should make their contributions in keeping the city clean.
