Jamshedpur, Nov 29: A snatching attempt in Hariomnagar under Adityapur police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district took a dramatic turn on Saturday when an accused youth was overpowered by alert locals.
According to reports, the youth attempted to snatch a woman’s purse while she was walking along the road.
Showing quick presence of mind, the woman pushed him, causing him to fall, and raised an alarm. Hearing her screams, nearby pedestrians rushed to the spot, caught hold of the accused, tied him to an electric pole, and thrashed him.
The crowd later informed the police, who reached the location and took the accused into custody.
Local residents alleged that the youth had been stalking women and young girls in the area for several days.
On Saturday, he attempted to snatch the woman’s purse but failed in his attempt.
The police are investigating the matter.
