Snatcher held after firing at police in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 15: Panic gripped the Sidhgora area near Surya Mandir on Monday after alleged snatchers opened fire on a police team during a chase, prompting retaliatory action by the police.
One accused was arrested and a pistol was recovered from his possession.
According to preliminary information, the incident is linked to a snatching case reported earlier in the day near Ghari Park in Telco, where two youths riding a motorcycle allegedly targeted a woman and fled with her belongings.

Police launched a search operation after receiving information about the crime.
During intensified patrolling, police spotted two suspects matching the description of the accused. When officers attempted to intercept them, the duo tried to escape.
During the chase, one of the suspects allegedly fired at the police team. Police responded with retaliatory firing, leading to a brief but tense confrontation near Surya Mandir in Sidhgora.

Sources said one of the accused was apprehended on the spot, while a firearm was seized from him. The second suspect reportedly managed to flee, and efforts were underway to trace and arrest him.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police and officers from Sidhgora, Sakchi, Bistupur and Telco police stations, rushed to the spot and supervised the operation.
The police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
Sources claimed that the arrested accused may be linked to more than 15 snatching incidents reported across the city.
The police are investigating the matter and are expected to reveal further details after completing the preliminary inquiry.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the rising crime graph in Jamshedpur, particularly as criminals allegedly targeted law enforcement personnel during the operation.
