Skill development boosts overall growth of tribals: Union Minister Arjun Munda

CII Jharkhand organises 3rd Tribal Development Meet

Jamshedpur, July 9: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jharkhand organised third edition of Tribal Development Meet over virtual platform in association with TRIFED, UNDP India and Citizens Foundation on Thursday, July 9.

Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guest. During his address, the Minister congratulated CII for organising the meet for three years consecutively and making it a part of CII�s flagship event calendar.

He stated that this kind of meet can go a long way in ensuring growth, development and employment of the youth belonging to the backward sections of the society. �Our government has given a special focus to the upliftment of tribal population�, stated Munda. He said that Government of India is taking special initiatives towards overall growth and development of the tribal community so that it can increasingly take part in the India growth story. He also gave special emphasis on the role of skill development for the overall growth and development of the tribal and other backward communities.

Shoko Noda, Resident Representative (Country Head), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India said that �For UNDP, inclusive development means �equal opportunities and choices for all�. Today�s consultation helped us explore possible collaborations to ensure sustainable development and economic growth that �leaves no one behind�. I request our friends from the corporate sector to ensure that their existing CSR strategies are sensitive to the diverse needs of the tribal communities. I would like to congratulate the CII team for bringing this expert group together that can ensure equal chances to our tribal communities, make their voices heard and fulfill their aspirations.�

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel Limited stated that the platform of CII Jharkhand Tribal Development Meet is an effort to create a forum for knowledge sharing and awareness creation. It is also an initiative to bring Government, Industry and Civil Societies together to create partnerships for addressing pertinent issues of Development. He said that the outcome of this meet should be creating more tribal and Dalit entrepreneurs resulting in inclusive growth in the aspirational districts of Jharkhand.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Sabherwal, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director, Metaldyne Industries Ltd said that CII and the industry of Jharkhand is committed to the development of the tribal society. �We shall specifically focus on the tribal youth with reference to education, employment, employability and entrepreneurship. We hope to adequately encourage and facilitate the tribal youth in the realization of their aspirations and dreams�, said Mr Sabherwal. He said that �we need to focus on Tribal development in Jharkhand, more now than ever before. Firm plans needed for the Economic development and upliftment of our area rich in flora, fauna, mineral reserves and human capital�.

Sourav Roy, Convenor, CII Jharkhand CSR & Skill Development Panel & Chief – Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel Ltd opined that every community and every individual have a lot to offer towards the growth and development of the nation and to that it�s a responsibility of everyone to help each other and include in development process. He said that �We at CII believe in sustainable and inclusive growth. I am sure with support from the industries and our members, we would bring forth many such activities in the days to come�.

Ganesh Reddy, Secretary cum Chief Executive Officer, Citizens Foundation said that the focus of the CII Jharkhand Tribal Development Meet is not merely on dialogue exchange rather it is aimed at charting concerned areas for Tribal Development and proposals for future action. The idea of putting such a subject specific event was proposed by CII members who are cognizant and sensitive towards nation building. This Tribal Development Meet is a convergence of ideas and experiences from different spheres.

The meet was also addressed by Pravir Krishna, IAS, Managing Director, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (TRIFED); Pankaj Malhan, Chief Executive Officer, Electrosteel Steels Ltd; Milind Kamble, Chairman, Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DICCI); Baidya Nath Mandi, President, Tribal Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TICCI); P K Gupta, Director-In-Charge, MSME-DI, Ranchi; Ganesh Toppo, Deputy General Manager, Bank of India; Binod Kumar, State Head, National SC-ST Hub Office, Ranchi, Jharkhand; Nisha Singhmarr, IRS, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Government of India; Aruna Tirkey, Tribal Entrepreneur & Founder, Ajam Emba � Tribal Restaurant and Nandlal Nayak, Noted Folk Artist, Music Composer & Film Director.

The Tribal Development Meet had particular focus on enhancing the quality of life of tribal communities and on craving a path for them to come in the mainstream of development. The meet deliberated on Tribal Workforce – Employment and Entrepreneurship � Schemes and Policies; Tribal Development – Role of Skill Development and Education; Showcasing Success Stories. Over 200 delegates participated in this important forum.
