Six held with 60kg ganja in Jamshedpur

Police Launches Anti-Drug Campaign: Major Busts in Ganja and Brown Sugar Smuggling Operations

Jamshedpur: In a proactive effort to combat the drug menace, Jamshedpur Police have been actively cracking down on illegal drug activities.

Ulidih police on Friday arrested a young man and recovered ganja from his possession.  He was later sent to jail.

Subsequently, the police have uncovered a significant ganja smuggling network operating within the city. Raids were conducted across various areas, leading to the arrest of six individuals in possession of ganja weighing 60 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 10 lakh.

Among the detained suspects, the key figure in the smuggling operation, Ganga Singh, hails from Baridih Ganga Path. Others include Ganesh Mahato from Hurlung, Pramod Kumar from Sankosai, and Vinod Chaurasia along with his two sons, Sunny Kumar and Roshan Kumar. The police have seized a scooter, a car, and an auto used for smuggling.

SSP Kishore Kaushal shared that the police had received confidential information regarding the illicit ganja trade being facilitated by Vinod Chaurasia on Sankosai Road number five.

Acting on this tip, a team was formed, resulting in the arrest of Vinod and his sons, along with the recovery of 16.60 kg of ganja. It was revealed that Vinod had hidden ganja in a cellar within the puja room of his house.

Further investigations led to the apprehension of Pramod Kumar Mallik, who was found to be supplying ganja to various areas of the city using autos. Upon his arrest, 10.20 kg of ganja was seized from his residence. Pramod disclosed that he sourced ganja from Ganga Singh. A raid on Ganga’s residence yielded 26.60 kg of ganja. Additionally, Ganesh was arrested with 12.70 kg of ganja. Ganga was involved in procuring ganja from Odisha and distributing it within the city.

In a separate operation, the police conducted a night-time raid near Old Purulia Road No. 1 Karim City College in the Azadnagar police station area. They arrested two individuals with brown sugar. The apprehended suspects are Suraj Kumar Prasad from Daigutu Dhobhi Line and Vicky Kumar from Dhipasahi. A total of 75 bags of brown sugar were seized from both individuals, and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
