Jamshedpur: City police arrested six active members of the notorious Amarnath Singh gang during a liquor party at a farmhouse in Turiyabera under the MGM police station area.
The arrested accused, including four men and two women, were allegedly planning extortion activities targeting businessmen in the Mango, Ulidih, and MGM areas.
Those arrested have been identified as Ankit Sharma (34), Anil Kumar (36), Bhola Kumar alias Ravi Kumar (32) of Ulidih Sankosai, Yogendra Kumar Prasad (35) of the MGM police station area, Maya Kaur alias Nisha of Gurudwara Road, Mango, and Sita Devi of Baridih Basti under Sidhgora. Police recovered a country-made pistol, a live cartridge, a motorcycle, a car, and several mobile phones from their possession.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, MGM police officer Sachin Kumar Das said the police received specific intelligence that criminals had gathered at the Turiabera farmhouse under the pretext of a liquor party and were planning a major criminal act. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team conducted a raid and arrested all six accused on the spot.
The officer said all the arrested persons are active members of the Amarnath Singh gang and were preparing to extort money from businessmen by creating fear and intimidation in the area. Investigation has also revealed that Ankit Sharma, Anil Kumar, and Yogendra Kumar Prasad have previous criminal records and have been jailed earlier in multiple cases.
Police said a major crime was averted due to timely action. All the accused have been sent to judicial custody, while raids are underway to trace other members of the gang.
