Sitaramdera Community Centre wins boxing championship

Jamshedpur: In its endeavour to encourage young boxers, Urban Services organised an Inter- Centre Junior and Sub-Junior Boxing Championship at Baridih Community Centre, Jamshedpur on Thursday last. Sitaramdera Community Centre won the championship while Baridih Community Centre were the runner-up. Selay Roy of Sitaramdera Community Centre was adjudged the best boxer in male category while Prity Kumari of Baridih Community Centre was declared the best boxer in female category.

The tournament served as a platform for 72 trained boxers from the aforesaid four community centres. These trained boxers were identified from various community centres on the basis of their interest and inclination to learn professional boxing. Charles Borromeo, Head, Sports, Tata Steel and Secretary-Jharkhand State Boxing Association felicitated the winners.

Urban Services, Tata Steel imparts regular training in various sporting disciplines across all of its twelve community centres. Such trainings help in identifying and nurturing latent sports talents and also provide constructive guidance to the youth.

In a bid to inculcate a healthy spirit of competitiveness, the Urban Services unit organises sports tournaments that also help the budding players to prepare for performance at state and national level competition. Boxing is one of sports for which Urban Services offers training at its Sitaramdera, Baridih, Namda and Tuiladungri community centres.
