Jamshedpur, Mar 29: A delegation from the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by President Vijay Anand Moonka, met with the Union Minister of State for Defence,  Sanjay Seth, in New Delhi. The delegation discussed the possibility of establishing defence-related manufacturing units in Kolhan to boost industrial development in the region.

During the meeting, the Chamber urged the minister to consider setting up a defence-related enterprise in or around Jamshedpur, which could create new opportunities for local industries. Responding to the request,  Sanjay Seth stated, “The central government is committed to manufacturing all defence-related products within the country under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. If such production takes place in Jamshedpur, it will be a matter of pride.”

The minister also informed the delegation that an Air Show is scheduled to be held in Ranchi on April 19-20 and a Defence Expo will take place in Jharkhand in September or October for the first time. The expo aims to introduce entrepreneurs to new opportunities in the defence sector.

Following this, the delegation held a high-level meeting with  Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary, Department of Defence Production. They requested the ministry to provide Kolhan’s industries with information on new defence products to help them enter the sector.  Sanjeev Kumar assured, “The ministry’s production department will conduct regular webinars and meetings with the Chamber to guide entrepreneurs on potential opportunities in this field.”

During the meeting, the secretary presented a list of approximately 38,000 defence-related products, which the Chamber examined for possible business prospects in Kolhan.

Expressing the Chamber’s commitment, President Vijay Anand Moonka stated, “If the Defence Ministry takes steps in this direction, the Chamber will actively participate and ensure a conducive industrial environment for this initiative.”
