Short supply from CLD leads to power crisis in JUVNL command areas

Jamshedpur : Several areas serviced by the Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) in and around the steel city faced power crisis since late last night due to short supply from the Central Load Despatch ( CLD) coupled with a snag at the Gamharia power grid sub-station.

The worst affected were areas like Mango, Parsudih, Adityapur and Chhotagovindpur where local residents had to confront intermittent power cuts and prolonged loadsheddings.

” The summer season has not yet come. But, the power crisis has begun. We are keeping our fingers crossed as to what will happen in peak summer, ” said S K Sen of Dimna Road in Mango.

Another resident of Olidih in Mango, said, ” It was a complete blackout for over two hours from 11 pm last night. The street lamps on the busy Dimna Road were also not working due to the power crisis.”

An official of JUVNL, K N Singh said that the Central Load Despatch was supplying power less than the requirement. But, a technical at the Gamharia power grid sub-station late in the night aggrated the problem.

“Engineers took about two hours to repair the fault. But, several areas continued to face the power crisis due to the short-supply from the CLD,” he said adding that normal power supply was restored late in the evening today.

Sources in JUVNL said that both the power grid sub-stations at Golmuri and Gamharia were getting short-supply for the last couple of days. Against a normal requirement of 35-40 MW, the Golmuri power grid sub-station was getting an average of 25 MW. Similarly, the Gamharia power grid sub-station which caters to the Adityapur industrial area was getting around 70-80 MW against its requirement of 100 MW.

The power crisis also resulted in water woes at a few places like Chhotagovindpur and Parsudih. ” Due to erratic power cuts we are not able to operate the water pumps. We had to bring water from other places,” said Shyamal Kumar, a resident of Chhotagovindpur.

Production activities in several small and medium scale industries at Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharsawan district was also stopped since last night due to the power crisis.
