Jamshedpur: Severe winter conditions continued across Jharkhand as a cold wave, accompanied by dense fog in several districts, pushed minimum temperatures well below normal. The persistent chill disrupted early morning movement, while residents across the state braced for harsher cold during mornings and nights.
Hazaribagh Coldest at 2.9°C
Hazaribagh emerged as the coldest place in the state, with the Automated Weather Station (AWS) recording a minimum temperature of just 2.9°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions prevailed in Hazaribagh and neighbouring districts, including Khunti, Daltonganj, Lohardaga, Chaibasa and Bokaro.
Jamshedpur Below Normal
Jamshedpur also witnessed biting cold, with the minimum temperature dipping to 8.4°C, while the maximum settled at 25.4°C, both below seasonal averages. The city experienced cold mornings and evenings as winter tightened its grip.
Dense Fog Reduces Visibility
Elsewhere, Daltonganj recorded a minimum temperature of 3.4°C and reported the lowest visibility at 300 metres due to dense fog. Visibility in Deoghar dropped to 500 metres, affecting early morning travel.
Ranchi logged a minimum temperature of 8.0°C, with no rainfall reported anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.
IMD Advisory
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during early morning and late-night hours, warning that cold wave and foggy conditions are likely to persist in parts of Jharkhand over the next couple of days.
