Seraikela: The Basanti Durga Puja festival concluded with the immersion of the deity on the occasion of Chaitra Dashami. Devotees wished farewell to the Divine Mother with the invitation, ‘Ashchhe Bachhar Abaar Esho Ma’ meaning ‘Come again next year Mother.’ The festive spirit could not be dampned even as the summer sun scorched the earth. This indefatigable spirit of joy was all the more evident because the last two years were spent under COVID pandemic threat. The Durga Puja Mandap at Sini Rail Colony where Devi Basanti was worshipped was the venue of joy where devotees prayed for peace, prosperity and progress.

On Dashami day on Monday, women smeared one another with vermillion, a tradition that has been maintained through time immemorial. This is called ‘Sindoor Khela’ that symbolizes long and happy conjugal and family life.
