One lakh masks and over 5000 litres of sanitisers to be made
Jamshedpur, April 27: As a part of its strategy to control the spread of Novel Coronavirus, South Eastern Railway is making efforts to produce reusable face masks and hand sanitizers in its four divisions including Ranchi �and Chakradharpur.
The masks and sanitizers are prepared under the strict supervision and guidance of medical experts of SER.
A SER spokesperson said all the railway divisions of SER and Kharagapur railway workshop have geared up their machineries and have so far produced around 1 lakh reusable face masks and over 5000 litres of hand sanitizers.
“We are taking step to ensure that masks and sanitizers are made available. South Eastern Railway is trying its best for running of freight and parcel express trains round the clock to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. The reusable face masks and hand sanitizers are being distributed amongst the employees like loco pilots, guards and concerned staff engaged in running of freight and parcel express trains to ensure their protection. It has also been planned to distribute mask and hand sanitizer to all employees of SER,” said the spokesperson.
He went to say that SER�s in-house production will not only ensure timely supply of the masks and sanitizers to the frontline staff and health care personnel but will also result in substantial cost savings.
South Eastern Railway (SER) has converted 329 coaches into isolation and quarantine wards initially to help COVID-19 affected people at large.
SER official said that different units of SER have started the conversion and modification works. “The modification works of the coaches are being carried out under the guidance of Medical Department and the converted and modified coaches will be equipped with all necessary medical facilities for the COVID-19 affected people. One coach is expected to have a good number of medically equipped beds to serve the COVID-19 affected people,” he noted.
He said that the works for conversion and modification of 329 coaches into isolation and quarantine coaches are being carried at Kharagpur Workshop, Santragachi Depot, Tatanagar Depot and Hatia Depot. “Out of 329 coaches, Kharagpur Workshop has been entrusted to convert and modify 160 coaches. Santragachi Depot is converting 89 coaches while Tatanagar Depot and Hatia Depot are modifying 20 and 60 coaches respectively,” he added.
