Kolkata, April 23: South Eastern Railway organised an Exhibition at its Headquarters, Garden Reach as a part of the closing ceremony of the week-long World Heritage Day-2022celebrations. Atulya Sinha, Additional General Manager & Chairman, Zonal Heritage Committee of South Eastern Railway was the Chief Guest on the occasion and inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibits included heritage Items and photographs of the bygone era. Paintings and drawings themed on ‘Heritage and Climate Change’ by the students of Railway Schools were also on display at the exhibition.
During his speech, Atulya Sinha observed, “The Railway Heritage is an inseparable part of our National Heritage. The Railway has a long history and legacy of its own and has always been a link between diverse cultures of our motherland. We must create awareness to maintain this proud legacy for the generations to come.”
He mentioned the different measures adopted by SER for preserving its glorious heritage.
The paintings and drawing exhibits on the concluding day of World Heritage Day celebrations were also a point of attraction among visitors.
Old railway equipment like Hand Signal Lamp, Telephone for Trunk Board Operation, Old Manuals, 16 mm Movie Cameras and other heritage equipment were on display at the SER headquarters in Garden Reach. Certificates were presented to eight employees in appreciation of their contribution towards preservation and restoration of Railway Heritage. Staff and Officers of different departments of SER visited the exhibition. The SER World Heritage Day concluded with a cultural programme.
