Jamshedpur: A 69-year-old senior citizen was duped by an unknown youth at an ATM in the Plaza area of Telco locality in Jamshedpur. The youth snatched his cash and withdrew Rs 37,000 from the victim’s bank account.
According to a written complaint submitted to the Telco police station, the victim, Kamal Kumar Sen, withdrew Rs 1,000 from the IDBI Bank Telco ATM around 11:48 am on Thursday. During the transaction, an unidentified youth entered the ATM booth, diverted his attention, and managed to steal his ATM card.
The miscreant snatched the cash, Rs 1000, withdrawn by the senior citizen from the Plaza kiosk and the ATM Card as well. The accused then fled the spot on a bike.
When the victim later reached the IDBI Bank branch to block his ATM card, bank officials informed him that Rs 37,000 had already been withdrawn from his account. It was found that the accused youth had withdrawn money five times, totalling Rs 37,000. Police say that the accused took note of the four-digit code of the senior citizen and thus succeeded in withdrawing the money.
The victim has requested the police to take appropriate legal action in the matter. Telco police have started an inquiry, and efforts are on to identify the accused with the help of CCTV footage.
