Seizures worth Rs 2.91 crore in Ghatshila by-election crackdown

Jamshedpur: In a determined effort to ensure free, fair, and transparent conduct of the 45-Ghatshila (ST) Assembly By-Election 2025, the district administration has intensified surveillance operations across all strategic locations. Acting under the directives of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, a coordinated campaign involving multiple enforcement agencies has resulted in the seizure of materials worth an estimated ₹2,91,21,000 so far.

According to official data, the seizures include ₹42,71,000 in cash, 12,837 liters of liquor valued at ₹10,11,000, narcotics worth ₹5,10,000, and various freebies and other materials valued at ₹2,33,38,000. These recoveries have been made through continuous checking drives conducted at interstate borders, static surveillance points, and multiple police station areas across the constituency.

The comprehensive surveillance network has been operating round-the-clock under the supervision of the Flying Squad Team (FST), Static Surveillance Team (SST), Excise Department, Police Department, and the District Level Expenditure Monitoring Team. These agencies are working in close coordination to prevent the illegal flow of money, liquor, drugs, or any inducements that could influence voters during the election period.

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi stated that strict vigilance and real-time monitoring have been implemented to uphold the sanctity of the democratic process. “No act that violates the Model Code of Conduct or seeks to unduly influence voters will be tolerated. The district administration is committed to conducting the by-election with the highest standards of transparency and fairness,” he said.

Officials have intensified checking of vehicles, goods carriers, and passenger transport across interstate and inter-district borders. Special focus has been placed on sensitive zones to curb attempts at bribery or distribution of illegal inducements.

The administration has also urged citizens to play an active role in maintaining electoral integrity by reporting any suspicious or illegal activities related to the distribution of money, liquor, or gifts. Complaints can be lodged instantly through the Election Commission’s c-Vigil mobile application, which ensures prompt investigation and action.

District authorities reiterated that such vigilance campaigns will continue until the completion of the by-election process. The proactive measures and large-scale seizures highlight the district administration’s firm resolve to uphold democratic values and ensure that every vote cast in the 45-Ghatshila (ST) Assembly By-Election 2025 reflects the true will of the people, free from any form of inducement or malpractice.
