Jamshedpur, Oct 5: In a momentous event, Loyola School Bistupur took a significant stride towards ecological consciousness as it welcomed two distinguished guests, Fr Robert Athickal and Devopriya Dutta, to address the student body during the morning assembly on Thursday.
The focus of their engaging discourse was to introduce the students to the impactful Tarumitra Movement.

Tarumitra, a nationwide student organization, is dedicated to fostering ecological sensitivity across India. Originating in 1988 in Patna, India, the movement has garnered recognition, with the U.N conferring a Special Consultative Status to Tarumitra since 2005. With a vast membership of over 2,00,000 students in more than 1000 high schools and colleges, Tarumitra has been at the forefront of raising awareness on crucial ecological issues.
Loyola School, in collaboration with Jamshedpur Jesuit Province, Loyola School Telco, the Loyola Alumni Association, and the Loyola Hindi School, is set to formally launch a Tarumitra branch at the Jesu Bhawan Campus in Mango. Preliminary discussions are underway with a dedicated team comprising teachers, students, and alumni to chart the course for this ambitious project. The primary objective is to sensitize students about the urgency of environmental conservation.
The school envisions a series of initiatives, including the creation of a green calendar by students to celebrate important days and festivals in an environmentally friendly manner. Bird feeders will be strategically installed across the campus, and an innovative approach to recycling will involve reusing answer scripts as papier-mâché to craft various objects.
To mark the inauguration of this transformative project, saplings were ceremoniously planted at the Jesu Bhavan campus in the presence of Fr Jerome Cutinha, the Provincial, Fr K M Joseph, the Rector, Fr Vinod Fernandes, the Principal, and Fr Robert Athickal, along with Devopriya and the office bearers of Loyola Alumni Association.
While acknowledging the ambition of the project, the school administration expressed confidence in its success with sustained effort, continuous motivation, and the collaborative support of like-minded institutions. The initiative aims to extend its influence beyond the school premises, enveloping the entire Steel City in a green embrace. Loyola School Bistupur is poised to become a beacon for environmental stewardship, nurturing a generation of students committed to safeguarding the planet.
