Security forces plan to raid Maoist hideouts along the Bengal-Jharkhand border

Jamshedpur: After surrender of notorious Maoists leader, Kanhu Munda along with his five associates the security forces have planned a new strategy to nail down rest of the rebels.The forces have recovered arms and ammunition and are now planning a massive combing operation with help from Jharkhand Police.

Security forces plan to raid all Maoist hideouts along the Bengal-Jharkhand border. A number of Maoist squads have also become active in Bans pahari and Simul pal in West Midnapore. Joint forces are expected to raid both places when operations begin.

“We have information that some of these people have engaged in anti-social activities once again. We have therefore decided to keep close tabs prisoners that may be asked by the committee in the future to be freed,” the police official said.

Notably, the Chamta village which is just four kilometres away from the Purulia district of Bengal and the place is considered to be a former rebel hotspot. An uprising by the local people in 2009 coupled with an intense policing by the CRPF’s continuous drive against the rebels.

Source pointed out that the naxals continue to infiltrate in splinter groups in villages under Bodam and Patamda block for convincing the local residents to revive the naxal movement in these areas.

“The rebels from Dampara squad and also from AyodhyaPahad squad have been trying to re-establish themselves at Bodam and Patamda where once upon a large number of local people used to extend blind support to the naxals,” said the intelligence source.

“We have asked security forces to conduct long-range patrolling in the areas of Ghurabandha, Ghatshila and Patamda,” said an official.

Sources informed that the high alert has been sounded after intelligence report that the ultras may attack at naxal areas of Ghatshila and Patamda.

Sources informed that there are intelligence inputs that CPI (Maoist) may indulge in demonstrative acts of violence by targeting security forces and economic infrastructure such as trains, buses, railway stations, bus stations and other places where people are likely to gather in significant numbers.

Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure security of the people. This time all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines,” said another official.

Meanwhile, the police and paramilitary forces have started frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary force on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.

Police said that the security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxlites. “There has been a substantial increase in Maoist activities in this. We are not much concerned about small acts of violence because these activities can be controlled by us, but the bigger attacks are worrisome,” said a security official.
