Jamshedpur: In a decisive counterinsurgency operation, security forces in West Singhbhum successfully defused a powerful 3 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxal extremists in the Lajamgudi and Jhingaburu forest areas, under West Singhbhum district. The joint operation, involving Jharkhand Police and multiple Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions, averted a potential attack, ensuring the safety of security personnel and civilians.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a large-scale anti-Naxal operation was launched, with coordinated efforts from CRPF battalions 203, 209, 26, 60, 134, 174, 193, and 197, along with district police teams. The operation, initiated under the jurisdiction of the Tonto police station, targeted areas identified as high-risk zones due to Naxal activities.
During the search operation at around 11:00 AM, security personnel detected an IED planted strategically along a patrol route, likely intended to target security forces. Following standard safety protocols, a bomb disposal squad was deployed, and the explosive device was successfully defused with the assistance of de-mining experts.
Authorities confirmed that the IED was a crude but highly dangerous explosive, designed to inflict severe casualties. This latest attempt highlights the persistent threats posed by Naxal groups, who continue to employ guerrilla warfare tactics against security forces in the region.
A senior police official stated, “Our forces remain vigilant and proactive in countering Naxal threats. This successful operation is a testament to our intelligence network and the coordination between different security agencies. We are committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.”
The ongoing anti-Naxal campaign has seen a series of operations in Jharkhand’s forested regions, targeting insurgent hideouts and dismantling their networks. Security forces have intensified patrolling and surveillance to curb further attempts at disrupting law and order.
Local residents have been urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to authorities. The administration reassured citizens that security measures have been strengthened, and efforts are underway to dismantle Naxal influence in vulnerable areas.
