SDO raids Ghaghidih Central Jail,mobile phones and addictive substances recovered

Jamshedpur, May 11 : The East Singhbhum district administration on Friday conducted a massive raid at Ghaghidih Central Jail in the outskirts of the city. The district administration recovered several cellphones, including SIMs and objectioning intoxicated products by conducting a surprise raid. Recovery of so many cellphones and cellphone accessories indicated that these gadgets were being smuggled into the prison easily.

The raid was led by SDO Madhavi Mishra. Apart from the police officials, and officers from civic bodies was present at the central jail during the raid.
“We carried the raid based on some reports we received. We have seized some objectionable products and have ordered strict vigil,� said an official.

administration has stepped up vigilance and deployed additional security forces.
During the raid the team frisked both remand prisoners and convicts lodged in separate blocks. They also checked more than 300 police personnel deployed in the complex for several hours and the search operations was conducted using sniffer dogs and bomb detector.

�The recovery of SIM Cards, and phones is matter of great concern and we are have increased the vigil and at present in process to scan the pen drives and chips,� said a police official.

Notably, the Ghaghidih Central Jail is spread over an area of 20 acres — set up on as large an area as Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar, Ranchi.
Spread over 20 acres of land, the Ghaghidih Central Jail has a prisoners’ capacity of 1,447.

There are a total of 11 trained jail guards, including three female ones. In addition, there are 65 hired security guards, including ex-servicemen and Home Guard personnel.

Sources went on to inform that concerned over the situation at the jail the administration has plans to step up vigilance and deploy additional security forces.
