Jamshedpur/Ranchi, June 18: In response to the rising temperatures and the alert issued by the weather department, the Department of School Education and Literacy has extended the school holidays for the third time. The Education Secretary has issued an order regarding this decision. As per the order, all schools in Jharkhand, across all categories, from KG to VIII, will observe a holiday until June 21. However, classes for students in grades nine to twelve have been permitted to run from 7 am to 11 am. The order also mentions that separate arrangements will be made to compensate for the academic loss during this period.
Initially, the schools were closed until June 14. The School Education Department issued the first order on June 11, stating the closure until June 14 due to the extreme heat and heatwave prevailing in the state. All government, non-government aided/unaided (including minority), and private schools in the state were included in this closure. For the second time, the closure was extended until June 17. On June 14, the School Education Department issued an order for the second time, stating that all schools would remain closed until June 17. However, classes from grades nine to twelve were exempted from this order and were to be conducted as per the earlier instructions. This decision was prompted by the escalating heatwave conditions in the state. Meteorological data indicates that no district in the state has recorded temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius.
