SCCI urges action on Jamshedpur airport, registry in Tata lease area and local issues

Jamshedpur, Apr 9:  A delegation of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), led by President Vijay Anand Moonka, met Jharkhand Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, IAS, in Ranchi to discuss key development issues concerning Jamshedpur and surrounding regions.

During the meeting, the Chamber strongly emphasized the urgent need to resume the construction of an airport in Jamshedpur, stating that despite the city’s industrial and economic significance, the absence of an airport continues to hamper growth and discourage new investments. “It’s been over a century since Jamshedpur’s establishment, yet its infrastructure remains incomplete. The airport project must be expedited by removing existing hurdles,” said Moonka.

The Chamber also urged the resumption of property registration in the Tata Command Area, which has been halted for years, leading to a slowdown in construction activity and loss of state revenue. They further demanded a comprehensive land survey in non-command areas like Mango and Jugsalai, where outdated records show land under ‘Unabad Bihar’, leaving residents unable to prove ownership, sell property, or access loans.

Vice President Rajeev Agrawal highlighted the vacancy of Additional and Joint Commissioners in the Commercial Tax Department in Jamshedpur division, causing delays and hardship to local businesses.

The delegation also raised concerns over the increasing elephant attacks in Chakulia, which have created panic among industrial workers and local villagers.

Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari assured the delegation that all issues were noted and appropriate steps would be taken for swift resolution.
