Jamshedpur: Education Minister Ramdas Soren has directed officials to initiate the admission process for local students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools located in East Singhbhum district. During a review meeting attended by MLAs Sanjeev Sardar and Sameer Mohanty, the minister emphasized that children from the district should be enrolled in these schools, rather than being sent to institutions in other districts like Chatra.
The minister took a firm stance on the issue, stating that students from East Singhbhum must receive their education within the district itself. It was also revealed during the meeting that the central government has not yet allocated operational funds for the schools. This lack of funding has hindered the functioning of hostels and other essential services, delaying the admission of several students.
Minister Soren instructed officials to ensure that children who have not yet been admitted should be enrolled as soon as possible. Currently, five Eklavya Model Residential Schools are set to operate in the district—in Gudabandha, Baharagora, Potka, Dumaria, and Dhalbhumgarh. Except for Gudabandha, preparations are underway to begin classes in all other schools from the current academic session.
Additionally, the education minister urged all private schools in the district to function in accordance with government regulations. MLA Sanjeev Sardar stressed the need for strict action against arbitrary practices by private schools. He pointed out ongoing complaints about compulsory purchases of notebooks and textbooks, among other issues.
Officials have been directed to carry out regular inspections of schools and take action against institutions found violating the rules.
