Jamshedpur, Oct 2: A Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) delegation led by President Vijay Anand Moonka, met Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi to request support for the construction of an airport in Dhalbhumgarh. The delegation also urged for action to improve higher education, healthcare facilities, and the establishment of major public sector companies in the Kolhan region.

Honorary General Secretary Manav Kedia informed that President Moonka emphasized Jamshedpur’s over 100-year history as mini-India that was home to a diverse and educated population. However, he noted, the city had yet to develop into a full-fledged metropolis due to critical shortcomings such as the absence of an airport, limited higher education opportunities, inadequate healthcare facilities, and a lack of public and government-sector companies. These factors, according to Moonka, contributed to the migration of youth to other places of opportunities, hindering the city’s economic growth.

The delegation presented the following key demands to the Governor:

  1. Airport Construction in Jamshedpur: Despite Jamshedpur being a hub of over 1,300 industries and recognized as the economic capital of Jharkhand, the city still lacked an airport. This forced travelers to go to Ranchi or Kolkata, causing inconvenience and impeding business and industrial growth.
  2. Higher Education Facilities: Jamshedpur lacked significant educational institutions, forcing students to seek higher education elsewhere. This led to a brain drain, with many students not returning, affecting the city’s workforce and development.
  3. Advanced Healthcare: The city required multi-super specialty hospitals to meet growing healthcare demands. Due to the absence of such facilities, residents had to travel to other cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, or Kolkata that enhanced treatment costs and caused losses to state revenue.
  4. Investment in Large Industries: The delegation also called for the establishment of major industries and government undertakings in Jamshedpur, which could boost industrial development and increase revenue for both central and state governments.

Governor Gangwar assured the delegation that their concerns and demands would be considered.
