Saryu Roy urges parties to embrace message of spontaneous bandh

Jamshedpur, July 4: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has congratulated the people of the city for what he described as the overwhelming success of the spontaneous Jamshedpur bandh held to protest the deteriorating law and order situation.
He also extended his appreciation to the NDA and members of various social organisations who took to the streets to encourage public participation and ensure the bandh remained peaceful and effective.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Roy urged the NDA, particularly his colleagues in the Janata Dal (United), to understand and internalise the message emerging from the spontaneous public response.
He said the bandh reflected the growing frustration of ordinary citizens over rising incidents of crime, snatching, theft and violence, as well as corruption, inflation and what he termed the politics of hooliganism.
Calling for a shift towards principled public life, Roy said political parties must rise above vested interests and unhealthy political competition and instead focus on value-based politics that genuinely serves the people. He asserted that the public is closely watching political conduct and will ultimately judge leaders by their commitment to ethical governance.
The veteran legislator further said that India possesses a rich ideological legacy shaped by leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Ram Manohar Lohia, Deendayal Upadhyaya and Jayaprakash Narayan. According to him, these ideals should have guided the country’s democratic journey but have gradually faded from mainstream political discourse over the past several decades.
Roy maintained that the spontaneous bandh has sent a clear message that citizens are prepared for a politics rooted in ethics, accountability and public welfare. He called upon political workers to revive these ideals, educate party cadres about the distinction between moral politics and mere political strategy, and build a new generation of committed supporters dedicated to principled public service.
