MLA Saryu Roy Warns Protest Over Tatanagar Train Delays

Jamshedpur: Growing frustration over chronic train delays at Tatanagar Railway Station has taken a political turn. Passengers, especially those relying on daily passenger trains, are facing severe hardships as services consistently run behind schedule.

Saryu Roy to Lead Protest on April 7

Taking a tough stand against the railway administration, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has announced a sit-in protest (dharna) in front of Tatanagar Railway Station on April 7. Roy made it clear that his agitation will continue until passengers receive tangible relief from the ongoing “latelatifi” (chronic delays).

To address the crisis, the MLA held a crucial meeting with Tarun Huria, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Chakradharpur Railway Division. The discussion covered train delays, third-line construction, and various operational bottlenecks.

Priorities: Passenger Trains Over Freight

During the meeting, Saryu Roy issued explicit instructions to the railway administration:

  • Priority Seating: Passenger trains must take precedence over freight services.

  • Operational Shift: Roy suggested temporarily halting goods trains if necessary to ensure passenger trains reach their destinations on time.

  • Accountability: He has demanded a detailed report from the railways explaining the specific causes behind the recurring delays.

Railway Administration Responds

DRM Tarun Huria attributed the delays to technical and operational issues but assured that steps are being taken to resolve them. He noted that both the Railway Minister and the local Member of Parliament (MP) have corresponded regarding this issue, and high-level instructions have been issued to regularize train operations.

Impact on Daily Commuters

Under the Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway, several trains are currently running hours late. This has pushed daily commuters—particularly office-goers and business professionals—to their breaking point.

On Sunday, Saryu Roy personally visited Tatanagar Station to assess the situation. He reiterated that if the situation does not improve immediately, the intensity of the agitation will increase. All eyes are now on the railway administration to see if they can fix the scheduling crisis before the proposed protest on April 7.
