Jamshedpur, Nov 26: In a landmark achievement during the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, seasoned politician Saryu Roy etched his name in history by winning from both Jamshedpur East and West seats, showcasing his unmatched political acumen and strategic brilliance. This remarkable feat highlights his enduring appeal and adaptability in the state’s dynamic political landscape.

Hailing from Khanita village of Itahari block in Bihar’s Buxar district, Saryu Roy’s journey in Jharkhand politics began in the 1990s, under the mentorship of Kailashpati Mishra, a BJP stalwart. Rai’s rise to prominence is a tale of resilience, foresight, and strategic manoeuvring, culminating in his unique distinction of serving thrice as a party MLA and once as an independent legislator.

Trailblazing political journey

Roy’s electoral journey started in 2005 when he secured his first win from Jamshedpur West on a BJP ticket. He repeated this success in 2014. However, his most notable victory came in 2019, when he contested independently from Jamshedpur East and defeated then-Chief Minister Raghubar Das, becoming one of the few leaders in India to defeat a sitting CM. In 2024, Roy shifted focus to Jamshedpur West, contesting under the Janata Dal (United) banner.
