Saryu Roy serves privilege notice to govt authorities for wrong info on pollution

Ranchi, Aug 4: Former Jharkhand minister and Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has given a notice of breach of privilege against the authorities concerned of forest, environment and climate change departments, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, state urban development department and Eagle company.

Saryu Roy intimated Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto about the breach of privilege while accusing officials of the said departments, board and the private company for allegedly giving false and misleading information related to a question raised by him during the monsoon session of the Assembly.

Roy said he had sought replies to questions related to measures taken to control pollution in Harmu and Damodar rivers. In their reply, the government officials concerned claimed that there are no outfalls of sewerage and drainage in these rivers hence both the river are not polluted. The government further claimed that to stop pollution the government has set up as many as 14 Sewage treatment plants in Ranchi, Sahibganj, Rajmahal, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Dhanbad. The pollution level in the rivers is regularly checked and the reports are regularly updated on the website of the Central Pollution Control Board.

Roy alleged that officials concerned furnished information which is factually incorrect. He said that from July 2020 onward no data related to pollution check of any river of Jharkhand has been uploaded on the site of Central Pollution Control Board. He went on to add that the report related to the Harmu river was never displayed on the website. He alleged officials deliberately gave false information which is a breach of privilege of the Jharkhand assembly and its members.
