Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy Demands CBI Probe into Ranchi Student Rape Case

MLA Alleges Organized Blackmail Racket

Ranchi: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has called for an expansive investigation into the recent sexual assault of a Jamshedpur-based dental student in Ranchi, alleging that a dangerous, organized gang is operating within the city’s educational hubs.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Roy revealed that he had discussed the case with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranchi. While the SSP assured him that the perpetrators and conspirators would face strict punishment, Roy argued that police action must go beyond a single incident.

The MLA warned that a deeper probe might uncover “anti-national conspirators” and could face pressure from influential “white-collar” individuals. To ensure an impartial and thorough investigation, Roy has demanded that the state government either constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or hand the case over to the CBI.

Allegations of an Organized Racket

The MLA claimed to have received “reliable information” that a criminal network is systematically trapping female students in the area.

“This gang traps girls through various means. Once a girl is caught, they use her as bait to lure others,” Roy stated.

He specifically pointed to Oli Vishwakarma—the girl who allegedly lured the victim to the crime scene under the pretext of a birthday celebration—as a victim-turned-agent of this syndicate. Roy suggested that a large number of students have already fallen prey to this trap.

The “Trap and Blackmail” Modus Operandi

According to the legislator, the gang’s strength lies in intimidation. They reportedly record photos and videos of their victims to blackmail them into silence. Most victims, fearing social stigma, do not report the crimes.

“In this latest case, the victim showed immense bravery by resisting the heinous act and speaking out, leading to the arrests. However, justice requires the police to unmask the entire gang and arrest its kingpin rather than limiting the case to one victim,” Roy added.
