Jamshedpur: Senior leader and Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy expressed strong reservations regarding reports that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar might shift to the Rajya Sabha. Roy labeled the timing of such a move “inappropriate” and “politically unsettling.”
Concerns Over Political Messaging
While acknowledging that party leadership makes final calls, Roy argued that major political shifts require careful weighing.
- Wrong Message: Roy remarked that announcing such a move immediately after elections sends the wrong signal to supporters and workers.
- Acceptance: “Even leaders like us find it difficult to accept this decision at this juncture,” he noted.
Demand for Deliberation
Roy also criticized the organizational process behind the reported decision. He argued that a step of this magnitude requires:
- Broad Consultations: Leadership should have consulted senior party members before moving forward.
- Internal Deliberation: Roy called the abruptness of the decision “not politically prudent,” suggesting that Nitish Kumar should continue leading Bihar rather than opting for a parliamentary role now.
Dismissing Pressure Tactics
When asked if external pressure influenced the Chief Minister, Roy dismissed the speculation entirely. He asserted that Nitish Kumar remains fully aligned with the BJP, emphasizing that the BJP-JD(U) coalition governs jointly to bring positive social change. “No one has ever exerted pressure on him,” Roy stated firmly.
