Hazaribagh (IANS): Unidentified assailants murdered a coal trader and ran over a villager during their high-speed escape in the Barkagaon police station area of Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district on Thursday night.
The double tragedy sparked intense panic and anger among residents of Napo Khurd village.
The Attack

Witnesses identified the victim as Rohit Sahu, a local coal trader and resident of Napo Khurd. Late Thursday night, a group of unidentified men arrived in a white Scorpio SUV and surrounded Sahu. The assailants attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, killing him on the spot before locals could intervene.
A Reckless Escape
Following the murder, the attackers fled in the Scorpio. In a desperate attempt to evade the gathering crowd, the driver sped recklessly through the village streets, hitting several bystanders.
The vehicle struck Pradeep Sahu, another village resident, inflicting critical injuries. Although villagers rushed him to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Community Outrage and Police Action
The back-to-back deaths triggered immediate outrage. Angry residents gathered at the scene to demand swift justice.
Upon receiving the report, a team from the Barkagaon police station arrived to restore order. Officers took custody of both bodies and sent them to Hazaribagh for post-mortem examinations.
Investigation Status
Police have launched a full investigation and are currently conducting raids to identify and arrest the suspects. Officials confirmed that they are working to trace the Scorpio and determine the motive behind the targeted killing of the trader.
