Jamshedpur: Amidst escalating tensions and political upheaval in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai is contemplating contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Dhanbad constituency. The move comes in the wake of mounting opposition against BJP candidate Dhullu Mahato, with concerns raised regarding his candidacy.
The discord surrounding Mahato’s nomination prompted Krishna Aggarwal, President of the Dhanbad District Marwari Conference, to pen a letter to BJP State President Babulal Marandi, urging a reconsideration of Mahato’s candidacy. Subsequently, Mahato allegedly issued threats to Aggarwal over the phone, exacerbating the situation. Rai’s name was referenced in the controversial audio recording, further intensifying the political imbroglio.
In response, MLA Saryu Roy took decisive action by personally visiting Dhanbad to address the brewing crisis. He met with Krishna Agarwal and engaged in discussions to defuse the escalating tensions. The controversy stems from Mahato’s selection as the BJP candidate, replacing PN Singh’s ticket, which sparked public outcry and prompted Roy’s intervention.
Prior to his visit, Roy took to Twitter to assert his commitment to addressing political turmoil in Dhanbad, drawing parallels to his efforts in Jamshedpur. He pledged to tackle the political climate in Dhanbad with the same determination, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing national interests.
Following Roy’s Twitter statements, the leaked audio recording involving Dhullu Mahato stirred further controversy, eliciting strong opposition. In response, Roy convened a meeting in Dhanbad, where he expressed his readiness to contest the elections if deemed necessary by the people. He affirmed his willingness to represent the interests of the electorate through Bharatiya Janata Morcha (BJMO) and reiterated his longstanding dedication to addressing issues such as the Damodar River and combating terrorism.
Addressing the media in Dhanbad, Roy emphasized his commitment to standing up against injustice, stating, “I do not get into trouble with anyone easily. If someone gets into trouble, I don’t leave. A befitting reply will be given to such elements.”
