Jamshedpur: MLA of Jamshedpur West, Saryu Roy, issued a clarion call for the upcoming Mango Municipal Corporation elections to prioritize urban development over partisan politics. Addressing a gathering of Janata Dal (United) workers at his Bistupur residence, Roy emphasized that the polls are a fight for better civic amenities, urging voters to maintain social unity across Mango’s diverse localities. He further solidified his position by backing an NDA-supported local candidate for Mayor, citing her deep-rooted understanding of the area’s infrastructure needs.
Roy pointed out that Mango has a mixed population with Hindu and Muslim localities living side by side, and social unity must be maintained during the election process. He clarified that the outcome of the Mango civic body election will not impact the stability of the Jharkhand government. What truly matters, he said, is how the elected body can contribute to improving civic amenities and overall quality of life in Mango.
The MLA said that he and his supporters are backing an NDA-supported candidate for the mayor’s post, primarily because she is a local woman leader who is well acquainted with Mango’s problems and the development work carried out so far. Emphasising continuity of progress, Roy said Mango has been steadily moving towards development, and the pace should not be allowed to slow down.
Recalling his first term as MLA in 2005, Roy described the severe drinking water crisis in Mango, when people of all ages had to stand in long queues for water. He said he resolved then to bring a drinking water project to Mango, which was later implemented. However, he alleged that during the last five years, the project suffered due to neglect, with issues such as silt accumulation in intake wells and incomplete infrastructure.
Roy also highlighted improvements in electricity supply, road connectivity, and the National Highway project, which followed sustained public movements. He reiterated that Mango voters should choose a local candidate capable of strengthening development in areas such as roads, sanitation, power supply, water, and education. He urged citizens to view the civic election independently of Assembly politics and make a thoughtful, united decision in the larger interest of Mango.
