Jamshedpur, March 31: MLA Saryu Roy has expressed readiness to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Dhanbad if supported by the Indi alliance. Roy’s decision comes in response to the BJP’s nomination of Dhullu Mahato, a candidate with a history of serious criminal accusations in Dhanbad.
Roy criticized the BJP’s decision to field Mahato and questioned the rationale behind it, given the serious charges against him. He urged the Indi alliance to back his candidacy or field a candidate capable of defeating Mahato to prevent his entry into Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference held at his residence in Doranda, Ranchi, Roy highlighted Mahato’s extensive criminal record, citing 49 registered cases of serious crimes, including those under sections 307, extortion, bullying, and the Arms and Explosives Act. Roy argued that Mahato’s criminal background renders him ineligible to contest elections as per the precedent set by the Supreme Court in the KK Prabhakaran vs P Jayarajan case.
Roy further criticized Mahato’s alleged exploitation of the OBC community during his tenure as MLA and his exploitation of workers in BCCL’s Baghmara area. He called for Mahato’s assembly membership to be revoked and for him to be declared ineligible for future elections.
Regarding the viral audio involving criminal Prince Khan, Roy suggested a deeper investigation, asserting that while the voices may differ, the script remains consistent between Mahato and Khan’s audios. He called on the police to probe the matter thoroughly.
