Jamshedpur, Sept 25: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy announced his commitment to upgrading the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi Upgraded School, Mango, into a full-fledged 10+2 institution. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the school management, Roy also assured the construction of a boundary wall once a written application was submitted.
The school, which had 500 students from diverse religious and social backgrounds, held special significance as it was named after Mahatma Gandhi. Roy emphasized that teaching here should embody Gandhiji’s values. He further highlighted his earlier contribution—constructing a two-story building intended as a Gandhi Museum. The museum was envisioned to narrate Gandhi’s life journey, including his South Africa years and freedom struggle, accompanied by his favorite hymns. However, the Municipal Corporation was currently using the building as its office. Roy promised to work toward relocating the office so the building could serve its original purpose.
He also recommended monthly Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) to foster better communication and ensure children learned Gandhian values on cleanliness, environment and discipline, implementing them in daily life.
Earlier, the school’s management led by President Noor Ahmed and Principal Firdous Bano, felicitated Roy. They acknowledged his previous contributions, including the construction of a large hall, which was now in poor condition. The Municipal Corporation had been using the hall as storage, leaving it dilapidated. Toilets and walls also required urgent repair.
Roy toured the premises with the management, reviewing moss-damaged walls, overgrown trees and other neglected areas. He assured efforts to address teacher shortages, strengthen infrastructure and improve the overall learning environment, making the school a true symbol of Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. His education representative SP Singh accompanied him.

Concerns were raised regarding negligence by some officials, including a City Manager accused of being inattentive to his duties. Roy personally called the official during the meeting, warning against further lapses.
The committee will also categorize complaints related to the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), reporting how many have been resolved, remain pending, or require higher-level intervention. Roy assured that corrective action would follow based on the findings.
Additionally, the committee will maintain communication with TSUISL officials to resolve infrastructure and sanitation-related issues.
