Jamshedpur, Sep 21: In a special event organized by the citizens of Brahmin Tola, Bhuiyandih, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy honoured local sanitation workers on Saturday. This marked the third consecutive year that the felicitation ceremony took place. MLA Roy commended the initiative, expressing his intention to expand similar events to other areas within the Jamshedpur East Assembly to foster better coordination between sanitation workers and citizens, ensuring cleaner streets and drains.

Roy emphasized his commitment to cleanliness as part of an ongoing campaign, pointing out that for the past two years, he has been pressurizing both Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Tata Steel-UISL (formerly JUSCO) to improve the sanitation system in the city. Despite repeated media reports suggesting that Tata Steel-UISL would assume responsibility for city-wide cleanliness, the plan has yet to be implemented.

Drawing comparisons to Indore’s widely praised cleanliness model, MLA Roy shared that he had spent three days last year observing the city’s municipal system. He urged Tata Steel-UISL and JNAC to adopt a similar approach and suggested that a formal proposal be sent to the Jharkhand government for implementing an Indore-like system in Jamshedpur.

Roy highlighted the significant challenges in maintaining clean roads and drains in Jamshedpur’s slums, where door-to-door garbage collection has not been properly enforced. He expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers for their diligent efforts in maintaining cleanliness in coordination with Brahmin Tola residents.

At the event, sanitation workers were honoured with a shawl, umbrella, and a packet of sweets. The workers were visibly thrilled by the recognition, especially being felicitated by the local MLA, making it a memorable experience for them.

False allegations won’t deter me: Saryu Roy

Jamshedpur, Sep 21: As political activities ramp up ahead of the upcoming elections, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy clarified his position amidst growing speculation about his candidacy. Addressing the confusion surrounding potential runs from either Jamshedpur East or West, Roy firmly stated, “I will contest the assembly elections from Jamshedpur East only.” He noted that some factions opposing him are rallying against his candidacy in both constituencies.

Roy also responded to recent allegations made by Dr. Ajoy Kumar, who claimed that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had issued notices to demolish 150 houses in Indiranagar and Kalyannagar based on a complaint from former Union Minister Arjun Munda. Roy countered that when it was time to advocate for the slum dwellers, he was the only one who represented their case in front of the NGT, while other leaders, including Dr. Kumar, were absent.

Addressing further accusations, Roy remarked on the actions of Jamshedpur West MLA Banna Gupta, who has been allegedly misusing his ministerial position to level false corruption claims against him. “Banna Gupta is echoing the sentiments of those I opposed in the 2019 elections,” he asserted, emphasizing that these baseless allegations are part of a political strategy by Congress members.

Roy criticized the Congress for what he described as a web of deceit, citing instances where local Congress supporters from Kadma have resorted to burning effigies as part of their protests. He highlighted a specific case involving a tribal woman who was attacked, pointing out that she had filed an FIR against a Kadma resident earlier this year, but no action was taken. He accused Minister Gupta of interfering in the investigation and attempting to silence the matter through negotiations with those involved.

“The law should be equal for all,” Roy declared, insisting that the administration must act impartially and ensure justice is served without yielding to political pressure. He urged law enforcement to hold accountable those who commit crimes, advocating for a fair and unbiased legal process.
