Jamshedpur, Dec 19: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has accused former Health Minister Banna Gupta for shirking responsibility in resolving the garbage disposal issue in Mango Municipal Corporation. Saryuaccused Gupta of creating confusion by writing a letter to the Chief Minister, despite the problem being resolvable at the local level.
In May 2023, the NGT had directed that garbage should not be dumped in residential areas like Sonari, with municipal bodies tasked to find proper disposal sites. As a result, the garbage from JNAC was now being dumped in the Bara Complex of Tata Steel in Sidhgora. Critics argued that Gupta, while a minister, could have arranged for Mango’s garbage disposal at Bara but failed to act, prioritizing personal interests.
Adityapur Municipal Corporation has been made the nodal agency for garbage disposal for Mango, Jugsalai, and Adityapur municipalities. While initial attempts were made to dump Mango’s garbage at the same site as Adityapur’s, obstacles were raised by Gupta and his supporters. Saryu Roy argued that the issue should be addressed by the Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners at the local level, not the Chief Minister. He accused Gupta of seeking publicity rather than working to solve the problem, and have called for an apology for the ongoing issues in Mango.
