Jamshedpur Congress Worker murder:  Six accused named in FIR

Jamshedpur: In a shocking incident, Congress worker Alok Munna, 27, was shot dead near Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Shastrinagar Block Number Four under Kadma police station area on Wednesday morning. Following the murder, an FIR has been lodged against six individuals based on a complaint by Alok’s brother, Manoj Kumar Bhagat. The accused include Akash Singh alias Chhotu Bachcha, Mohit Singh, Rajan Singh, Vikas Singh, Manish Pandey of Kadma Ramnagar, and Sumit Singh alias Chhonti.
The murder took place around 10 am when Alok, who was also the operator of Tiger Club, was targeted. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal stated that the killing was a result of personal rivalry. The victim had several criminal cases registered against him. Alok had recently tied the knot, just 25 days ago, on November 22, 2024.
The incident has heightened tension in the area, prompting police to increase patrolling to maintain law and order. Alok was reportedly associated with multiple social organizations but also faced allegations of criminal activities. Earlier, a CCTV video of him assaulting a BJP leader had gone viral, adding to his controversial image.
Reacting to the incident, former state minister Banna Gupta accused MLA Saryu Roy of failing to fulfill his promise of making Jamshedpur crime-free. He alleged that criminals under political protection were responsible for Alok’s murder and demanded swift action. Gupta warned that if the culprits were not arrested soon, he would escalate the matter to the DGP and the Chief Minister. He also claimed that other Congress workers were receiving threats and cautioned the police against working under political pressure, threatening to launch a protest if justice was delayed.
In response, Saryu Roy issued a counter-statement blaming Gupta for nurturing criminal gangs. He alleged that these gangs, which had thrived under Gupta’s political protection, were now clashing among themselves, leading to Alok’s death. Roy stated that the atmosphere of fear and crime created during Gupta’s tenure was now backfiring on him.
Meanwhile, the police have begun preparations for property attachment proceedings against the accused and have initiated actions against their families. The investigation continues as the city reels from the political and criminal ramifications of the incident.
