Jamshedpur, May 16: The shop owners in Sakchi kept their shops closed for the first half till 12 noon on Monday against the dictatorial attitude of the East Singhbhum district administration.

Up against SDO Suraj Kumar, who has been heading the anti-encroachment drive all over the city, the shop owners under the banner of Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce headed by president Mohanlal Agarwal and general secretary Harvinder Singh took out a rally from Sakchi market in the morning which culminated at DC office.

They also staged silent protest before the DC office and later submitted a memorandum to DC Dr. Amitabh Kaushal against the encroachment drive which removed several shops from Sakchi recently on May 11 and 12.

Addressing the shop owners, Mohanlal Agarwal said, Tata Steel has given permission to build overhang of 3 ft and platform of 2 inches in front of the shop but the district administration still fined the shop owners and misbehaved with some of the shopkeepers.

He further said that after the May 11 and 12 incident all the shop keepers of Sakchi are outraged. According to Harvinder Singh, general secretary of the chamber, shop owners are in dilemma as to what they should do and what not because Tata Steel had given permission but on the other hand the rude behavior of the administration.
