Jamshedpur, Sept 29: In a fresh case of cyber fraud, scammers duped a man of  Rs 70,000 at an ATM kiosk in Ulidih by offering “help” to withdraw cash.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

The incident took place on the night of September 27. Moti Singh, a resident of Dimna Road, had gone to the Canara Bank ATM on Dimna Road to withdraw money.

After several unsuccessful attempts to withdraw cash, a young man standing behind him stepped in, pretending to help.

The fraudster took Singh’s ATM card, pretended to insert it into the machine, and cleverly swapped it with another card.

He then deliberately jammed the machine and fled the spot.

Moments later, Singh received SMS alerts on his phone informing him that  Rs 70,000 had been withdrawn from his account.

Realizing he had been duped, he immediately rushed to Ulidih police station and lodged a written complaint.

Based on his statement, the police have registered a case of cheating against the holder of mobile number 8409036059. Preliminary investigations suggest that the case involves ATM card swapping.

The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the bank and ATM kiosk to identify the suspect.

People  have been urged to remain alert and avoid accepting unsolicited help from strangers while withdrawing cash at ATMs.
