Dengue is spread by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, with symptoms appearing 5-6 days later.
Anyone bitten by an infected female Aedes mosquito is at risk. Most dengue cases are due to such bites.
Patients should be examined and treated promptly to prevent complications. The IgM ELISA test should be done five days after fever onset. Testing is free at MGM and Sadar Hospital and available at TMH and other private institutions.
