RPF Kharagpur busts interstate mobile theft gang under ‘Operation Yatri Suraksha’

Kharagpur, Nov 27: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) Kharagpur bust an interstate gang involved in smuggling stolen mobile phones, seizing 302 phones, ₹3.91 lakh in cash, and a Maruti Ertiga car. This operation was conducted under ‘Operation Yatri Suraksha.’

The breakthrough occurred on November 25 during the escorting of Train No. 18046 (East Coast Express). Lady RPF personnel identified two suspicious passengers in Coach A2, who attempted to hide their luggage. Upon inspection, three bags containing stolen mobile phones were recovered. The suspects, Puli Vanesh (30) and Sathupati Mahalakshmi (41), admitted to acting as couriers transporting stolen goods from Secunderabad to Shalimar for ₹15,000 each.

Acting on their information, RPF personnel apprehended four accomplices near Kharagpur station, recovering the stolen cash and car.

The accused Individuals included Puli Vanesh (30), Sathupati Mahalakshmi (41), Brahm Dev Yadav (40), Syad Md Umar Nizami (28), Salamat Ali (30) and Asraf Ali (47).

The items seized were 302 stolen mobile phones, ₹3.91 lakh in cash and one grey Maruti Ertiga car.

The operation involved swift coordination among escort and raiding teams led by SI B. Singh and ASI S.K. Pandey, with commendable efforts by LC Rinku Badala, LC Sangeeta Devi, and others. The seized items and accused were handed over to GRPS/KGP, where a case has been registered for further investigation.

This bust, valued at over ₹60 lakh, reinforced RPF’s commitment to protecting passengers and dismantling organized crime networks.
