Jamshedpur: Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Green organized an awareness programme on the prevention of anaemia at GNM Nursing College, MGM Hospital, today. The session, led by Dr. (Prof) Nirmal Kumar, Retired HOD of Medicine and Consultant Physician, provided an in-depth explanation of anaemia, its causes, and preventive measures.

Dr. Kumar highlighted that one-third of the world’s population suffers from anaemia, with half of these cases attributed to iron deficiency anaemia. He emphasized that poor dietary intake of iron-rich foods is a key contributing factor. “Anaemia can be prevented by consuming foods rich in iron, folic acid, and Vitamin B12 in adequate amounts,” he said. The doctor also pointed out that heavy menstruation and repeated pregnancies are common causes of anaemia in young girls and women.

In addition, the programme discussed the prevention of genetic diseases such as Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease, which are prevalent in Jharkhand, Bengal, and Odisha.

The event was attended by the Principal, faculty members, and interns of the Nursing College. Rotary Club member Rtn Ranjeet Tak introduced the audience to the various initiatives of the Rotary Club, while Rtn Neelam Jayaswal delivered the vote of thanks.
