Robbery at Jamshedpur liquor shop: Miscreants escape with cash and liquor

Jamshedpur, July 2: Late on Monday night, a group of six miscreants carried out a daring robbery at a liquor shop situated at Marine Drive in Kadma police station area. The incident involved the hostage-taking of the shop’s security guard, Raju Gope, who was held at gunpoint while the robbers looted cash and expensive liquor from the establishment’s cash box.

Upon receiving information, the Kadma police promptly responded to the scene. Early Tuesday morning, officials from the Excise Department and the police’s technical team also arrived to investigate the incident. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being thoroughly examined as part of the investigation.

According to Raju’s account to the police, he was seated outside the shop when six miscreants arrived in a white car. Two of them stayed in the vehicle while the other four surrounded him. One brandished a gun, threatening him, while the others forcefully opened the shop’s shutter and proceeded to steal cash and valuable liquor stocks. They also removed the CCTV DVR and confiscated mobile phones from Raju, although these were later returned. The discarded CCTV equipment was found in nearby bushes after the robbery.

Raju reported that the robbery lasted for about an hour, raising concerns about the absence of police patrolling during that time. The incident, occurring between midnight and 1 AM, has sparked questions regarding security measures in the area.

The Excise Department estimates the stolen cash to be around Rs 1.20 lakh from the shop’s cash box, alongside an assessment of missing liquor bottles. Raju informed the police that the robbers fled in a white Swift Dzire car, prompting authorities to initiate a search for the vehicle involved.
