SCCI meet with Secretary discusses industrial development roadblocks, ameliorations

Jamshedpur, July 6: Jitendra Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary of Industries of the Government of Jharkhand, Prem Ranjan, Regional Director of JIADA Jamshedpur, Rituraj Sinha, Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL (formerly JUSCO), Pranav Kumar Paul, Joint Director of Industries and several other prominent executives and officials were present during the discussions organized by Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) to seek amelioration to problems coming in the way of industrial development in the Kolhan region.

SCCI President Vijay Anand Moonka, in his welcome address, emphasized that the responsibility for industrial development in Kolhan rested not only on the shoulders of the Industries Department but also on the collective efforts of all stakeholders. He expressed concern over the migration of labourers from Jharkhand due to the lack of industrial opportunities.

The SCCI President highlighted the Chamber’s initiative of writing letters to 17 companies, urging them to establish an automobile company in Kolhan to benefit local MSMEs and create new markets. He also called for the establishment of a micro land cluster and equal electricity rates for Kolhan’s industries, along with the provision of electricity portability.

 Industries Vice President Mahesh Sonthalia, presented the issues faced by entrepreneurs, including consent problems, poor infrastructure such as bad roads and street lights, holding tax, parking, and electricity-related concerns.

In response to the Chamber’s concerns, Jitendra Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary of Industries, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to address the industrial development and issues faced by the Kolhan region. Singh acknowledged that the Industries Department was aware of these problems and actively sought to resolve all such hitches. He stated that out of over 100,000 applications received through the single window system, approximately 88,000 applications had been approved. Singh highlighted the policies implemented by the Jharkhand government such as the food, textile, electric vehicle and MSME development policies that aimed at promoting industrial growth in the state.

Singh urged the SCCI to engage with Tata Motors and Railways and prioritize local industries for the supply of electronic components. He also mentioned that the Jharkhand government had empowered the regional directors of JIDA (Jharkhand Industrial Development Authority) to address small-scale problems within their spending limit of one crore rupees. These included issues related to street lights, drainage, and roads.

Singh assured SCCI that the concerns regarding parking and other industrial interests would be addressed promptly. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of establishing an airport for the overall industrial development of the region.

Prem Ranjan, Regional Director of JIDA, assured the entrepreneurs present at the meeting that the roads in the Adityapur industrial area would be repaired expeditiously.

Rituraj Sinha, Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL  highlighted the difficulties faced by industries in Adityapur when seeking electricity approvals from the Jharkhand government. He suggested simplifying the approval process to ensure power accessibility for all industries.

During the event, Inder Agarwal, President of ASIA, raised concerns about the duration of the renewed CTE (Consent to Establish) issued by the Pollution Control Board, emphasizing the need for longer renewal periods. Agarwal also advocated for the government to bear the annual fee for street lights. The meeting between SCCI and government officials focused on addressing the challenges faced by the industrial sector in Kolhan and ensuring its development through collaborative efforts.
