Jamshedpur: The admission process for the B.Ed session 2024-26 at Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) has come under scrutiny following allegations of violations of reservation rules during open counselling. Students have raised concerns, claiming irregularities in filling seats under the reserved OBC quota.
According to reports, the university conducted open counselling in the fifth round after seats remained vacant despite four rounds of counselling. Out of the seven vacant OBC seats—two under BC-1 and five under BC-2—the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) had provided a roster for admission. However, it is alleged that the university merged the BC-1 and BC-2 categories and released a list of only six candidates, all of whom belong to the general OBC category.
Hemant Pathak of Chhatra AJSU termed the issue a “seat scam,” criticizing the administration for disregarding reservation norms. “This is a clear violation of reservation rules and a disservice to the candidates entitled to these seats,” he stated, demanding a transparent investigation into the matter.
In response, the university administration acknowledged an error in the admission process. A member of the admission committee admitted, “There has been a mistake in following the roster provided for admissions. The issue is being taken seriously, and a detailed investigation will be conducted.”
The Vice Chancellor has announced the formation of a special committee to probe the allegations. “The committee will review the entire process, investigate the claims, and submit its findings within a week,” a university spokesperson confirmed. The Vice Chancellor will decide on corrective measures based on the committee’s report.
This incident has sparked widespread debate among students and academic circles, with many emphasizing the need for accountability and adherence to reservation policies. The investigation’s outcome is eagerly awaited as it holds significant implications for the university’s admission practices.
